The Underlying Problem Of A Country, Is Often Rooted In Its Economy

"The capitalist knows that whatever the problem a country exhibits, the underlying problem, more often then not, is rooted in its economy. It may pass as a religious or racial problem, but is basically economic."

China Is Rising Interest Rates But It Could Do Other Things To Deal With Inflation And A Property Bubble.

The chinese have been rising interest rates, they know they have an inflation problem, they know they have a real estate bubble in urban coastal areas, and they are trying to deal with them both. That sort of thing I watch, it is good what they are doing, I think they can do other things as well.

China has a blocked currency. They have been opening it up more and more in the past 5 years, and certainly in the past year or two. But that is part of the problem. They have all that money trapped in China, it cannot get out, and so it has to go somewhere, so its going into the property market.

I'm not selling China by any stretch of the imagination. I'm not buying right now. I buy China when it collapses. It hasn't collapsed in the past couple of years. In China there is a real-estate bubble that's going to pop some day, but it's not going to bring down the whole Chinese economy.

My Worst Investment Decision Ever

This is way back in 1970, when I was still new to markets and the business. I had all my money in puts in January, which people thought was nuts. I sold my puts the day the market hit bottom and tripled my money. Two months later, I sold short several companies — but in the next two months, markets kept rallying, stocks kept going up. I was wiped out and lost everything. Interestingly, the companies I'd short also went bankrupt over the next two years, but I was wiped out first.

This episode taught me that i didn't know enough about markets and market timing.
I thought I was smart but I didn't know better.

Jim Rogers Was Awarded The Prestigious Schlarbaum Prize For The Lifetime Defense Of Liberty

Last night at the Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama, author, investor and global traveller, Jim Rogers, was awarded the prestigious Schlarbaum Prize for the lifetime defense of liberty.

Rogers told attendees to the event that the United States has had two central banks prior to the Federal Reserve and that they both disappeared. He said he fully expected the same thing to happen to the Federal Reserve. He charged that Ben Bernanke as Fed chairman only knows how to print money, and that this money printing policy of the Fed will cause it to collapse from within.

Rogers also called for an audit of Fort Knox and raised questions as to the quantity and quality of the gold there.

He said that the Great Britain was the world power of the 19th century, the United States the power of the 20th century and that China will be the world power of 21st century.

When A Recession Comes Again, We Are Going To Have A Serious Problem

Every 4 to 6 years in the history of America we`ve had a recession or an economic slowdown. It comes fairly regularly. So by 2012 we are overdue again. Whether it comes in 2011 or in 2013, I don`t know. My only point is, its coming again and when it comes the next time what is the government going to do? We can`t quadruple the debt again, Mr. Bernanke can`t print any more money, there are not enough trees for him to print that much money.

So we are going to have a serious problem.
